The Power of Discernment
July 14, 2020 By Joan Cranford
Philippians 1: 9b and 10 from the Life Application Bible
Grow in spiritual knowledge and insight for I want you always to see clearly the difference between right and wrong and be inwardly clean, no one will be able to criticize you from now until our Lord returns.
ENCOURAGEMENT: Discernment is a process of letting go of what we are NOT. It is always easier to define ourselves by the moment of struggle – pain and suffering when life has a grip on us and we like Jacob are wrestling with our and feelings. After we wrestle all night, we recall the 5 things God wants us to remember in trying times:
You are never alone
Nothing takes God by surprise
When you are weak, He is strong
He is the God of new beginnings
His love never gives up
The many ways we suffer inwardly and outwardly are God’s tools for revealing and freeing us.
PRAYER: God, we have no idea where we are going and we do not see the road ahead of us. We cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor God do we really know ourselves, and the fact that we think we are following your will does not mean that we are actually doing so. We believe O God that the desire to please You does in fact please You. And we know that if we trust You and discern what we are not and let it go, You will lead us by the right road. We will not fear, for You are ever with us and You will never leave us to face our troubles alone. Thank You for carrying us through. In Jesus name…AMEN
REFLECTION: Today, begin to discern what you are not and then let it go. Give it to the one who made you, who will care for you, and who will carry you along and save you.
