GRACE & HUMILITY

July 28, 2020 By Donnella Cranford

FOCUS SCRIPTURE: But He gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says: “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.” James 4:6 (NIV)

ENCOURAGEMENT: The very center and core of the NT is the principle of the grace of God. Grace means to get something that is undeserved and grace is clearly expressed in the promises of God. We have each prospered by and through the grace of God. It is His grace to us that is our source and supply for showing grace to others.

We are eager for God to pour His grace out on us, but we must remember to pour grace out on others. That requires an act of humility…giving someone something we think they might not deserve. When we’re humble, we are much more inclined to extend grace to others.

Remember, God has shown grace to us and we, in turn, are to show grace to others. Giving grace to another person is unconditional. Here are a few ways we can extend grace to other:

Be kind and gentle in what you say and how you say it. People can be rude and others will not meet your expectations; instead of you responding harshly, keep a calm spirit.

Forgive. When someone asks you to forgive, do so graciously and without correction.

Take an interest in someone of the opposite race. Learn about other people, ask them questions, listen and care.

God’s grace is a blessing that lives in us. Keep it alive by paying it forward.

PRAYER: Father God, thank you for Your grace! We humble ourselves before You asking that You continue to pour Your grace out on us. Teach us to be humble each day. Help us to show that same favor to others, that we may give graciously to those who enter our lives. Lord, we want to be more like You and give unmerited favor to others; show us how and Father, provide opportunities for us to do it, in Jesus name we pray.

REFLECTION: When we intentionally remember how gracious God has been to us, it’s a lot easier to give grace to others. God wants us to grow strong in giving grace to others, so let’s get enthusiastic about it and make it happen today!
